1. Rob Van Dam Vs. Balls Mahoney (Anarchy Rulz 1999)
It was said in an earlier entry that Rob Van Dam has been called everything from a 'spot-monkey' to a performer who requires carrying from other good wrestlers in order to be effective. True credit must be given to the original ECW for giving constant chances to those who may not have received the same faith elsewhere. Balls Mahoney is one of those men, but so was Van Dam. Before this match from the Anarhy Rulz 1999 pay-per-view, Balls was more of a low card character. He was the kind who would show up and swing a few steel chairs, interacting with the audience and largely performing in tag-team bouts. At Anarchy Rulz, he was given the opportunity to work the main event spot and contest Van Dam's long-running tenure with the ECW Television Title. Similarly, RVD was handed the chance to show he could be the top guy and headline cards. Approximately 20 minutes later, Mahoney was hearing praise from the ECW audience. They were delighted with his performance opposite RVD, showing that both could work in a number of different positions on the card. Van Dam comes across as the undoubted star attraction, but Balls backs him up very well. What other original ECW pay-per-view matches would you consider to be under-rated?
