The Summer of 1997 was a strange time if you were a hardcore ECW enthusiast. On Hardcore Heaven alone, Jerry 'The King' Lawler wrestled Tommy Dreamer, and he was joined on the card by another talent on loan to Paul Heyman's crew. Al Snow had previously been known as Leif Cassidy in the WWF, and he still wore the same ring attire for this match opposite Rob Van Dam. Later, Snow would tweak his character to show signs of mental illness. This would lead to a more fruitful run under the employ of Vince McMahon, but as a straight up pro wrestler he was always capable of producing. Wrestling hadn't been Al's problem in the WWF, but ECW allowed him to take a breather and just enjoy performing again. There are fans who believe Rob Van Dam only had great matches when he was carried by the likes of Jerry Lynn in ECW. This proves that's not true, because he has to do his fair share of the work to ensure the smooth running of this bout during the 15 minute duration. Snow looks focused, and Van Dam just looks like a star. Awesome stuff.
