10. The Wrestler

After the success of Floyd Mayweather's appearance at WrestleMania XXIV, WWE seemed desperate to get another celebrity in the ring at the following year's event.

As luck would have it, a Hollywood star of considerable profile had just released a movie in which he played a professional wrestler - and, what's more, he was apparently prepared to step inside the squared circle for a taste of the real thing.

Fans got excited (well, some did anyway - most just got annoyed) at the prospect of seeing Mickey Rourke face Chris Jericho at WrestleMania 25, but those dreams were dashed when it was announced that his handlers wouldn't allow it.

Ricky Steamboat proved a more than serviceable replacement, despite his advancing years, but the storyline itself just didn't work without Rourke lacing up for real.
