As WrestleMania 7 drew closer and closer, you just knew the Hogan Vs Slaughter match was going to be heated. Not only were they fighting for the WWF Title, but there was also national pride on the line, with Hogan defending the United States against Slaughter's new found love for Iraq, when real-life tensions were high between America and the Middle East because of the Gulf War. It was as much of a wild brawl as Hogan or Slaughter could have had at that stage of their careers, but when Hogan began bleeding, the level of drama escalated big-time. It helped to tell the perfect story that the company wanted to tell... Hogan, and America, were being beaten down by Slaughter, and the Middle East, allowing for the great comeback story to then be told.
