Theres a classic Simpsons episode where Krusty the Klown walks out onstage for the Krusty Komedy Klassic. Behind him are three large large white letter Ks. He immediately recognizes the ramifications of this situation and says K K K? Thats not good. The crowd then pelted him with garbage until he was knocked out. What Kruty did was an accident. Killer Karl Kox, however, was purposefully trying to stir up some controversy by sharing the same acronym of Americas Ku Klux Klan white supremacist group. Kox was born Herb Gerwig, so it was pretty obvious that the man needed a new name if he was going to make it to the big time. Herb isnt very threatening, or interesting sounding, so Herb went in a pretty tasteless direction for his heel persona. When he moved from the mid-west territories down to Texas he chose a name that was immediately going to anger a large percentage of the crowd, and let it be known that he was a villain. Times were different back then, but that doesnt make the name any less offensive. You cant imagine that Killer Karl Kox would fly anywhere on a national scene these days.
