Not everything in wrestling is fun, and the tragic story of Chris Benoit serves as a reminder of the very real dangers that can accompany such a physical and mentally stressful career.

With a director (Lexi Alexander) and writers (Jake Goldberger and Sarah Coulter) already attached, it seems likely that Crossface, a dramatic retelling of Chris Benoit’s career and eventual double-murder-suicide, will make it to audiences in some form or another. Though it seems that WWE has shunned the project, after effectively redacting Benoit from its history books, Crossface could actually prove to be an important tale about the dangers of concussions and CTE within professional wrestling, and about how mental health issues can often go unchecked for too long.

If WWE were to get on board with the project, and they chose to market it as a cautionary and historically relevant document, rather than a celebration or demonization of Benoit himself, they’d actually come away looking classy about the whole ordeal, so long as the movie itself was tastefully executed.
