10 Movies About Wrestling We Actually Want To See
10. Andre The Giant: Closer To Heaven
Andre the Giant is still one of the most iconic and remarkable figures to have graced a squared circle, and his mainstream appeal has ensured that his legacy as a household showbusiness name has lived on throughout the 21st Century.
Andre’s daughter, Robin Christensen-Roussimoff is apparently trying to adapt the biographical graphic novel Andre the Giant: Closer to Heaven for the big-screen, and while the ‘Eighth Wonder of the World’s’ career will no doubt make for some heart-breaking viewing, the burning question remains: who is our Andre?
Thanks to his gigantism and acromegaly, Andre looked unlike any other wrestler or actor before or since, which will present quite the conundrum when it comes to casting this thing. Do you push for somebody purely because they look a lot like the Giant? Do you pick someone of roughly the same height, and simply go to town on him with prosthetic makeup? Or do you forgo looks almost entirely, and try to cast somebody who more closely captures Andre’s warmth and intimidating presence in equal measure?
Either way, this feels like something that should have happened a long time ago. As the original WWE Hall of Famer and a bonafide movie star in his own right, Andre the Giant’s story is one that can be appreciated by wrestling fans and moviegoers alike.
