Meeting in a heavily-hyped match at the first ECW Pay-Per-View, Barely Legal in 1997, Taz and Sabu didn't really show what they could do on the bigger stage, and the bout is largely considered a disappointment by many fans. Cheerfully, both men would get the opportunity to set things right in 1999. The FTW Title was really a belt created in 1998 for the sole purpose of giving Taz his own strap, born out of the man's storyline frustration at not being able to face an injured Shane Douglas for the ECW World Title. Everything fans had witnessed on various non-PPV shows rang true, Taz vs. Sabu was a very good match, but it's surprising that it took ECW so long to let the men headline one of their major events.
