6. Bret Lobbied Hard For Owen To Win In 1994

Likely seeing dollar signs in his future by working against his brother, it was Bret Hart who went to bat for his brother Owen in 1994. As WWF Champion, the elder Hart sibling favoured working against wrestlers who could help him produce lengthy, dramatic matches focused on in-ring action, and that's where his flesh and blood came in. By winning the King Of The Ring in 1994, Owen was immediately thrust into the position of being Bret's main challenger for Summerslam, where the pair would construct one of the greatest Steel Cage bouts in WWF/WWE history. It was clear the guidelines for what constituted a WWF main event star were changing, but Vince McMahon never did see Owen as Bret's equal, despite his in-ring abilities. Who knows who else would have been crowned 'King' in 1994 had it not been Owen, but maybe someone like Tatanka or Razor Ramon would have been handed the honour. Eerily, Mabel was also on the show, losing out to IRS in the Quarter Finals. Who could have predicted that just one year later, the big man would be sitting on the throne?
