10 People With More WWE Wins Than Sting
Sting gets a WWE Title shot without winning a WWE match. Even Earl Hebner won 2 matches.
Sting made his shock return to WWE this past Monday on RAW, as Triple H and Stephanie McMahon were unveiling Seth Rollins' victory statue. 'The Vigilante' proceeded to attack the reigning WWE and United States Champion, which brings us the match booked in the graphic above. Seth Rollins vs. Sting, at Night of Champions, for all the marbles (except for just the WWE World Title marbles).
Sting's legacy in the sport of professional wrestling is not up for debate, the man is a Hall of Fame shoo-in. Whether it was California beach boy Sting or the modern Crow/Vigilante equivalent, Sting is one of the most recognisable names in modern wrestling history. He was also the last WCW loyalist, not gracing a WWE ring until Survivor Series last year. To this day, the man has only had a single WWE match.
Which he lost.
Legacy or not, it is hard to look past the fact that Sting has been catapulted into title contention despite having a 100% loss record in WWE. Sure, it took D-Generation X and a broken sledgehammer, but Triple H defeated Sting at WrestleMania XXXI, in Sting's only WWE match to date. Still, he gets a title shot.
Throughout WWE history there have been a number of stars who have briefly tasted competition in the ring, and many of them also tasted victory (unlike Sting). Here are 10 individuals with more WWE victories than the number one contender, Sting.
10. Stephen Amell
I'll start with the most recent. Stephen Amell is best known as the star of 'Arrow', a show that I remember being advertised on Sky One a while back and that is as far as my research into it will go. He's also playing the role of Casey Jones in the forthcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, which is alright in my book. On top of these wondrous facts, he also has a WWE win-loss record that Sting would kill for. One match, one victory.
Amell's victory came at WWE's most recent special event, SummerSlam 2015. He teamed up with (not Adrian) Neville to go up against the Cosmic Kings, the duo of Stardust and King Barrett. It was Stardust who set the ball in motion for this tussle, attacking Amell in the crowd during RAW on August 10th. Amell took umbrage with this, and proceeded to jump the guardrail and attack the former Cody Rhodes. Stardust was embroiled in a comic book-style feud with Neville at the time, giving Amell an obvious tag partner. I can only assume King Barrett was involved in the match because someone had to lose.
The 'Arrow' star faired pretty well during the match itself, taking a decent amount of punishment and getting in a couple of offensive moves including an enziguri. The coup de grace was a diving crossbody to the outside, allowing Neville to take advantage and hit Barrett with the red arrow. Amell was victorious.
Which is more than can be said for Sting in a WWE ring.
