Heres another one to mark on the whiteboard: the tag team champions should not be losing non-title matches to build to a title match with the same people. If The New Day lose twice a week to the Prime Time Players leading up to a title match (on the pre-show) on the upcoming pay-per-view, whos going to want to watch it? We already know that the PTP have their number, and weve seen them ring it on more than one occasion. Allocating a match weve seen twice or more on free TV an extra five minutes, placing it in front of a slightly bigger crowd and making it more difficult (and possibly expensive) to find and watch doesnt suddenly make it must-see wrestling. Its a booking policy thats pretty pervasive across all of WWEs programming, but when it comes to the tag championships its far worse, because (as discussed) the in-ring competition is frequently the only real storyline to their feuds. If theyre playing out the same story twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, no ones going to pay to see it on Sunday night. Protect your champions. Its basic booking 101: that way, theres drama when the titles actually on the line, and they get to show us something we havent seen yet.
