Extreme Championship Wrestling was counter-culture, that much is for sure, and offered a true alternative to what both the then-WWF and WCW were presenting in the mid-to-late-1990's. It was a great time to be a wrestling fan - customers had so much choice during that time period. The same cannot be said of 2015, where most people only identify pro wrestling by what WWE present on weekly television. Thankfully, ICW has taken up the mantle left by ECW, and has even shown glimpses of surpassing the success of the cult-like company, certainly via links with mainstream entertainment, media and on a financial level. Comparisons were only natural, given that ICW puts on a show with many of the same familiar elements that were reasons fans enjoyed the original ECW so much. Far from being a negative, this is an incredible positive - even though the promotions share a lot of similarities, ICW aren't content to simply be labelled as being cult-like. There is so much more to this Scottish company than just hardcore matches and blood, that can't be denied.
