The announcement that Roman Reigns will defend his WWE Championship in the 2016 Royal Rumble has sent shockwaves through the wrestling world. Not since 1992, when Ric Flair won the belt, has a title been on the line in the Rumble match. In fact, this will be the first time ever that the belt has been defended in a Rumble, as the belt was vacant back in 92. Reigns must do something that no person has ever done before, and that's what makes this piece of booking so captivating. He's going to have to make history, or there's going to be a new champion crowned. My immediate inclination is that Reigns will be retaining. This is WWE's way of really putting him over. He's already got a ton of momentum behind him, and this big win could be the final piece of the puzzle to really establish him as the rock solid new franchise of the promotion. There's several reasons why he should retain, and this list will analyse the key points. Another option would be Triple H winning the Rumble to take the belt and set up a match with Reigns at WrestleMania. That isn't a bad idea, but for my money, Reigns will win on January 24, in a move that elevates him to even greater heights as the WWE Champion.
