4. A Rushed WrestleMania 32 Narrative

The Undertaker's storyline for WrestleMania 32 was cobbled together at the last minute when it became clear John Cena wasn't going to be available for April 3. That's why the booking made such little sense and it is also why Shane McMahon's return was so out of the blue. It was desperation.

If he had been retiring, the narrative would have offered a career conclusion. It had been expected that a long build story, starting with his 25th anniversary celebrations at Survivor Series, could have led to the goodbye. As part of that, the symbolism of going out in his home state of Texas was rumoured to be a factor.

But by the time of 'Mania 32's thrown together story, the quarter of a century and Texas homecoming didn't matter. It wasn't a storybook ending.

All great characters demand great endings, and therefore this story has at least one chapter left.
