10 Reasons Why It Took John Cena 16 Years To Get Good At Wrestling

10. He's NOT Hulk Hogan

Below are a few facts for people who say that John Cena didn't have to be a "good wrestler" because he was fulfilling the same role Hulk Hogan, there's reason to believe that Cena is 2015 is the equivalent of what Hogan was in 1985. Thus, Cena prior to his 2015 evolution was actually not quite as gifted as being the "lead horse" as an in-ring performer as Hulk Hogan was in his prime. John Cena made his wrestling debut in 1999. He was signed to WWE by 2001. By 2005, and after having only spent time in WWE's system, was the WWE Champion. Comparatively, Hulk Hogan debuted in 1977, and spent time in the Florida, Alabama, Memphis and Knoxville territories. He then main evented for the WWF in 1980 versus Andre the Giant, which then led him to New Japan Pro Wrestling and the AWA. By the time Hulk Hogan won the WWF Championship in 1984, he'd literally proven himself as a consistent draw worldwide and had earned the respect of the industry. Now 15 years into his career, Cena may have finally reached the same level as a performer that Hogan had reached by 1984. This isn't actually a point made to be derisive, but rather one meant to show that Cena may actually be able to turn out a higher level of tremendous performances on a more consistent basis with a more diverse set of opponents now than he's had in the first 15 years of his career.
