Introduced in 1998, Charles Wright - who had previously played Papa Shango and Kama Mustafa - was recast as The Godfather, a fun-loving pimp. At first, Wright remained a part of The Nation Of Domination, and was still technically a heel but fans just loved the guy and he was quickly flying solo as a popular mid-card babyface. This is another example of a gimmick which should have had a short shelf-life, but it's still one fans talk about today. The Godfather has even come back to make several special appearances over the years; most notably at the 2013 Royal Rumble. TV executives must have been dumbfounded at Vince McMahon for casting a pimp on his shows, but it worked. Due to pressure coming from networks, The Godfather was eventually toned down before eventually being repackaged as The Goodfather, a reformed pimp who was now part of the Right To Censor stable. You can't make this stuff up.
