10 Rumoured Wrestling Gimmicks That Thankfully Never Happened

Wrestling doesn't need a cryogenically-frozen Nazi cyborg, thank you very much.

It almost goes without saying, but gimmicks are incredibly important in the wacky world of professional wrestling. Often they can make or break a performer's career, and a number of guys and gals have been blessed to have gimmicks that have allowed them to transcend their wrestling abilities.

There have also been a number of unlucky individuals who have been saddled with gimmicks that are quite simply unworkable. If you've been a wrestling fan for a long time, you'll be able to come up with a whole host of examples, whether it was Bastion Booger, The Shockmaster, or T.L. Hopper. I don't care who you are, but you aren't going to make a wrestling plumber work.

A number of wrestlers have somehow managed to dodge bullets that would have been critical to their careers. Whether this was by shooting down the ideas themselves or being saved before the gimmicks could gain legs, there have been a number of ideas rumoured that would have put some seriously talented individuals in extremely compromised positions.

It is interesting to note that some of the biggest names in wrestling have been in this boat. Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, and more have all been perilously close to some seriously bad idea.

Thankfully, for the wrestlers' sakes - and our own - these ten gimmicks never happened.

10. Kalisto: Gay Hair Stylist

His singles push may have stalled in recent weeks after losing the United States Championship to Rusev, but Kalisto has done pretty well for himself since moving from NXT up to the main roster. The Lucha Dragons have had a number of spotlight moments as a tag team, and the man himself had two reigns as US Champion. With the right attention, WWE may very well have the heir to Rey Mysterio.

It could have been so different however, if the creative team had gone ahead with a rumoured gimmick for the man. Reports prior to his main roster ascension suggested that WWE was considering unmasking Kalisto and having him portray an openly-gay hair stylist, with some saying Kalisto had a try out with the gimmick and really impressed in the process.

WWE doesn't have the greatest track record when it comes to homosexuality, and one dreads to think what the long-term portrayal of the gimmick would have been. It is fairly depressing to type that in 2016, but this is World Wrestling Entertainment after all. Luckily for Kalisto, he kept his NXT gimmick and still has a bright future ahead of him.
