10 Saddest Times Wrestlers Couldn't Finish The Story
10. Cody Rhodes
Cody Rhodes came back to WWE in 2022 as a changed man. He wasn't Dashing and he wasn't Stardust, but he was the man who helped All Elite Wrestling start after a bet on Twitter with Dave Meltzer. You've just got to love wrestling.
After he returned at WrestleMania 38 and won a best-of-three series with Seth Rollins over the next few months, he set his sights on becoming Undisputed WWE Universal Champion. The reason was simple: he wanted to win the top prize that his father never got his hands on.
'I have to finish the story!" has been well parodied ever since, especially because he lost to Roman Reigns at 'Mania 39. Even with a triumphant return at Royal Rumble 2023 and it seemingly being written in the stars that he'd take the crown on the Grandest Stage of Them All, Reigns wins lol.
There's still time for this one, but you could argue the story ended in a loss and now we're on the sequel. With CM Punk returning last year, The Rock teasing a match with Roman Reigns, and the Royal Rumble match only weeks away, there's plenty of chance for the story to continue forever.
