The brother of the late 'Hot Stuff' Eddie Gilbert, Doug Gilbert never did make it to the promised land of WWE, but the man would earn a living working mainly for independent territories in the US, even traveling to work in Japan and wrestling for WCW and ECW. By 1999, Gilbert was involved in a feud with Brian Christopher for Power-Pro Wrestling. Wrestling fans have always turned their heads when a wrestler starts making off the cuff remarks, and one episode - taped in October - would lead to Doug instantly losing his job with the company for comments made during a routine interview.Apparently not giving a damn whether or not he was about to be fired, Gilbert mentioned that Christopher had only been given title runs in Memphis because he was Jerry Lawler's son, insinuated that promoter Randy Hales smoked crack cocaine, and even went so far as to mention allegations against Lawler for sexual assault of a 13-year old girl. Failing to mention that Lawler had been cleared of any criminal charges, Gilbert was pretty much fired on the spot, and Power-Pro Wrestling would later shut down in 2001. One thing's for sure, nobody in the building that day thought Gilbert was going to say the things he said, and it's almost comical to see Tommy Rich looking on bemused.
