10 Spine-Chilling WWE Calls You'll Never Forget
5. "Climb The Ladder, Kid!"
Another moment where JR gave up any pretence of impartiality came in 2002, when a young Jeff Hardy was given the chance of a lifetime in the shape of an Undisputed Title shot in a Ladder Match against The Undertaker on Raw.
This match, perhaps more than any other, shows just how much great commentary can add to the events that are unfolding in the ring. Viewers went into it without any expectation that Jeff could actually win - and yet, by the end, that was exactly what we were all pulling for.
The best moment came when the former Team Xtreme member was standing at the foot of the ladder, staring up at the prize that awaited him at the top. "Climb the ladder, kid!" came the cry from the commentary desk; a literal instruction as well as a figurative one.
While the then-25-year-old didn't quite manage to pull off the greatest upset in WWE history, it was this match - and JR's stellar microphone work - that helped convince fans that he might one day become a star of the main event. And he did - about six years later.
