Competing in Ultimate Fighting Championship is the goal of every man or woman who has ever dreamed of making a living in the sport of mixed martial arts.
In truth, most fighters never get a chance to even set foot inside the UFC's Octagon, and even fewer go on to become stars or even champions.
However, even those who are fortunate enough to make a name for themselves in the world's most recognized promotion must constantly evolve if they hope to stay on top. Of course, the shelf life of even the best fighters is relatively short, and few competitors are fortunate enough to go out on top.
With 2020 now upon us, there are several big-named UFC stars whose days with the promotion appear to be numbered. That being said, there are a variety of different reasons as to why these top-tier mixed martial artists' careers in the UFC appear to be coming to an end.
With that in mind, it's time to take a closer look at ten headlining acts who probably won't be fighting in the UFC by the time 2021 rolls around.
10. Chris Weidman
Back in 2013, when Chris Weidman upset Anderson Silva to capture the UFC Middleweight Championship, he became a household name seemingly overnight.
The All-American's star continued to rise as he defended his title in a re-match with Silva. He would also defeat legendary fighters like Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort during his reign as middleweight king.
The New York native would eventually go on to lose the title to Luke Rockhold in 2015, and his career has been trending downward ever since.
Various injuries have kept him sidelined for extended periods, and he is currently 1-5 over the course of his last six fights. Moreover, all five of his losses have come via knockout.
Last October, the former champ decided to move up a weight class and try his luck at light heavyweight. Unfortunately, for Weidman, he was knocked out early in the first round by surging prospect, Dominick Reyes.
Following his most recent loss, the 35-year-old has decided to forgo retirement and continue his career in the UFC. That being said, he's probably just one knockout loss away from calling it quits or being asked to retire by UFC President Dana White.
Chris Weidman is a legend and surefire future UFC Hall of Famer, but it seems unlikely he'll turn things around in 2020, given his age and suspect chin.
