There was no story to speak of leading into the match, nor was one necessary. Fans were sold based solely on who was involved and that made for an electric atmosphere when the competitors took to the ring. With anticipation at a high and the competitive will of all four stars fueling the action, the wrestling world was treated to an outstanding contest for the WCW Tag Team Championship. The match not worked like a traditional babyface vs. heel tag bout. Neither of the duos gained control of the bout for extended periods of time and thus, fans were left guessing as to what was to come next. It made for a far more dramatic bout than it may otherwise have been and was a major part of what made it an instant classic. That there was such a great angle that unfolded moments before the pinfall, which saw the dastardly Russian Nikita Koloff come to ringside and bash Sting in the face with a chain, only enhanced the importance of the match to the future booking plans of WCW.
