10 Strange WWE Gimmick Matches
7. Buried Alive Match
Speaking of signature matches…
Probably no one has more signature matches than the legendary Undertaker, whose character would lend itself to several gimmick matches, including the casket match.
But we’ve got to give the nod to the Buried Alive matches, of which there have been five in WWF/E history, all of which have involved Taker. The concept is exactly what it sounds like: the wrestlers fight until one can knock the other into an open grave (typically a huge mound of dirt near the entranceway) and then cover his opponent with dirt. Such matches have taken place at Survivor Series 2003 and Bragging Rights 2010.
Now that Undertaker is seemingly retired, have we seen the “death” of the Buried Alive match? That might be a safe assumption.
