10 Strangest Ways Wrestlers Were Written Off TV

5. Vince McMahon Explodes In A Limo

Admittedly, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon was not a consistent in-ring performer when he was suddenly written off television in June 2007, but he had just been involved in an odd ECW World title feud with Bobby Lashley.

However, after eventually losing the belt he'd won from 'The All Mighty', McMahon decided it was time for a break from the spotlight and used this as a chance to get more eyes on his product.

Killing the 'Mr. McMahon' character in a freak limousine accident, it looked like this storyline was set to dominate Monday Night Raw for the foreseeable future. Fans all around the world were also deeply invested in the event, with Donald Trump even calling up Titan Towers to check if his WrestleMania 23 rival was OK.

Yet, when Chris Benoit and his family were tragically found dead in their home a few weeks later, those plans to continue the story were immediately scrapped and McMahon acknowledged that his death was merely part of a programme.

McMahon would then disappear for a few weeks after the Benoit incident and upon returning revealed that he faked his death to see what people really thought of him.

Needless to say, we haven't seen many fake death angles used to write stars off WWE programming since and it'd probably be wise to stay clear of them for the foreseeable future.
