At this point, can we really say that it would constitute of a "surprise" if Ronda Rousey came down as the number 30 (or perhaps 20) entrant next month in Philadelphia?

According to some reports, in fact, the women's Royal Rumble is in itself a vehicle concocted specifically for the former UFC star to make a big splash on her first night in professional wrestling, setting up a supposed "dream match" with Charlotte at WrestleMania 34.

Doing this probably would cheapen the concept slightly, if we're totally honest. Rousey may be a legitimate fighter but the jury is still out on her wrestling credentials. Conor McGregor or Floyd Mayweather winning the men's version would be regarded as an affront to the business, and perhaps this should be too.

Looking at it from a strictly business point of view, however, there's absolutely no denying that one of the world's big box office draws writing a piece of WWE history on her debut in the squared circle would drum up some interest from the mainstream media.
