Also known as The Road Warriors, Hawk and Animal are still fondly remembered to this day. Sadly, Hawk passed away in 2003, but that hasn't diminished the impact the team had on tag wrestling throughout the 1980's and well into the 90's. Love for the team had to be strong, because the WWF did everything they could to ruin the duo's legacy in the late-1990's. At the time, Hawk was suffering from alcohol problems. The company - ever classy - decided to work his demons into storyline, with Animal bringing Darren Drozdov into the mix to try and replace his longtime partner. An ill-conceived suicide angle was followed up by a split on an episode of Monday Night Raw. It was clear by fan reaction that this was something nobody wanted to see. Evidently, management felt their hand had been forced by Hawk's personal issues, but they didn't necessarily have to book LOD to split up. This was a sad end to one of the greatest teams in grappling folklore, and was their last full time run in the big time. Later, following Hawk's passing, WWE even tried to crudely insert the hapless Jon Heidenreich into LOD in Hawk's place. That bombed too.
