The idea behind Legacy was relatively simple. Randy Orton, who had previously been a young star himself in Evolution, would be the leader. His star power would help both Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase bed further onto the WWE roster, before hopefully going on to become genuine top names themselves. It was sound in theory, but ultimately flawed in execution. Together, DiBiase and Rhodes were a solid team. Both had been brought up around the wrestling industry, with their fathers being main event level names for many years. It was a match made in heaven, but WWE curiously neglected to follow up their union with anything meaningful. Cracks began to appear leading to a showdown between the Legacy trio, and at WrestleMania XXVI they faced off in a triple threat bout. Following that, they just sort of drifted apart. Cody was drafted to SmackDown where he started using the 'Dashing' gimmick, and Ted just became a pale imitation of his father's 'Million Dollar Man' persona. Splitting the duo did nothing for them, and actually halted their momentum. Separating from Orton was one thing, but they could have continued to team.
