10 Teams Who Could Win The AEW Trios Titles From Death Triangle

Which teams should claim trios gold?

By Chris Chopping /

Plans for trios titles in AEW were held up, first by a global pandemic, and then by the wear and tear on Kenny Omega’s body. By the time they did arrive, many obvious candidates for a trios division - Jurassic Express, reDRagon and Adam Cole - had imploded or dissolved.

Currently the new titles are caught up in the feud between Death Triangle and Best Friends that also encompasses the All-Atlantic Title. PAC recently lost the latter piece of gold when he got caught cheating and was bested by Orange Cassidy, but the Bastard retained the former when the Lucha Bros. showed him they didn’t need hammers to succeed. Hopefully that wraps up this rivalry.

AEW has already delivered some of the best long-term storytelling in wrestling history, but not every midcard feud needs to be a saga. So, consider this list an open letter to Tony Khan - please keep Best Friends and Death Triangle apart, at least for a little while.

Similarly, Dark Order lost in the final of the Trios Championship tournament and also failed in their recent shot against the current champions, so they won’t be featuring here either. That’s not to say Best Friends and Dark Order wouldn’t be welcome challengers to new champions down the line.

For now though, here are ten teams who could face, possibly even beat, Death Triangle for the AEW Trios Titles.

10. Sting, Darby Allin and Dustin Rhodes

Although Darby has absorbed his fair share of losses, Sting and Darby Allin are completely unbeaten as a team. So nevermind FTR, where is Sting and Darby’s shot at the tag belts, Tony? Of course, Sting is the sort of special attraction that doesn’t need a belt, and Tony Khan is hardly about to push him into the World Title picture.

That said, if wins and losses matter then ultimately Sting’s spotless record should count for something, or else what is he even doing here? A run with the trios straps would facilitate the sort of crowd pleasing, popcorn match fans have come to expect from the pairing.

And making up the numbers? Another beloved veteran whose face paint fits the team’s aesthetic. Dustin Rhodes has barely been seen on TV since his brother left the company, but he’s always a welcome presence.

“The Natural” recently made comments suggesting time is finally catching up with him, so it would be good to see him back on TV in role that allows him to share the load with a couple of teammates. Plus given Darby’s history with Cody, it would make sense for the older Rhodes brother to have a deep respect for the young man.
