10 Things Learned From Bruce Prichard's Something To Wrestle With Podcast On Owen Hart
10. Vince McMahon Didn't Understand The Triple Header
Longtime WWE fans will remember In Your House from September 1995, featuring Diesel and Shawn Michaels vs. Yokozuna and Owen Hart in the Triple Header match in which all three championships were defended. If Diesel or Shawn pinned or submitted Yoko or Owen, the Two Dudes With Attitudes would become Tag Team Champions. If Owen or Yoko defeated Diesel or Shawn, the two members of Camp Cornette would claim the corresponding singles title.
On Bruce Prichard's podcast, Bruce explained how Vince did not understand the champion vs. champion concept. Interesting considering this was not the first time a title vs. title match took place. Back at WrestleMania VI when The Ultimate Challenge pegged WWF Champion vs. Intercontinental Champion, title for title, Hulk Hogan vs. The Ultimate Warrior, McMahon shared the same bewilderment.
According to Bruce, Vince wondered why anyone would want two championships, considering they could only defend one. As Prichard tells it, Vince asked, "Why would Shawn Michaels and Diesel want to be Tag Team Champion?" Apparently, despite consistently booking champion vs. champion and title vs. title matches every several years, McMahon didn't see the appeal.
