10 Things That HAVEN'T Totally Sucked About WWE In 2021
6. Getting Edge Right
When Edge returned in the 2020 Royal Rumble match, it was surreal.
This guy who had retired nine years prior came back, appearing to be in better shape than he was before the retirement. He looked like Edge. Remember the short hair era of the Hall of Famer? What if he'd entered to such a rapturous ovation with that haircut? It'd still be emotional, obviously, but it simply wouldn't be the same.
'The Rated-R Superstar' came back in 2021 as if he was in the prime of his career. At 47-years-old, he lasted 58 and a half minutes in the Royal Rumble match to win the thing, ousting Braun Strowman, Seth Rollins, and Randy Orton en-route to his second victory in the thirty-man contest. His programme opposite Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan heading into WrestleMania 37 was both intense and emotional at the same time, given the journeys of the three men.
What was key, however, was Edge's recent return ahead of the full-time return of live audiences. The multi-time World Champion ambushed Reigns at the end of a SmackDown episode, extending that onslaught to gagging Jimmy Uso with a crowbar on last Friday's blue brand outing.
Your writer wasn't expecting this Edge to return. It feels like 2006 all over again for all the right reasons.
