10 Things That Must Happen Before WrestleMania 34
2. John Cena Breaks The Record
WWE fans won’t be seeing John Cena anytime soon. The 16-time World Champion is set to take several months off after his big night at WrestleMania 33, and with his acting career escalating, he’s expected to miss more television than ever before in 2017. There’s a strong chance that he could become no more than a part-time special attraction by the year’s end, but regardless, he’ll remain one of WWE’s biggest stars.
Cena equalled Ric Flair’s championship record by defeating AJ Styles for the WWE Title at the start of the year, and when he returns, John should work towards making that milestone his own. Having played the role of WWE’s franchise player for over a decade, it’s nothing less than what he deserves, and while some fans will baulk at the prospect, Cena has earned his place in history.
Cena’s matches with AJ Styles prove he still knows how to deliver a big performance, and his crowd reactions (whether positive or negative) will always be among the company’s loudest. He’s a bigger superstar than anyone else on the roster, and given WWE’s obsession with “making history” and breaking records, it’s surely only a matter of time before he overtakes the Nature Boy.
