10 Things We Learned From Something Else To Wrestle With: The Mega Powers
"You got lust in your eyes and in your black heart" wasn't 100% storyline...
After last week's technical teething problems, Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson produced a very different 'Something Else To Wrestle With' episode this week.
Gone were the archaic webcams, renegade references to Chyna ("Hi, Hunter") and the general ball-busting behaviour from Thompson. WWE obviously had a little chat with both, because the overall presentation was very different and closer to a company-produced retrospective than some regular listeners to the pair's podcast may like.
Don't worry though: there was enough backstage gossip, behind-the-curtain storytelling and fascinating insight to keep things ticking along nicely. In fact, the one hour 47 minute-long show was bursting with details that older fans will salivate over.
Prichard was responsible for a lot of what happened between Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage, otherwise known as The Mega Powers, between 1987-1989. As a key member of Vince McMahon's creative team, Bruce penned many of the nuances that helped weave the tale, and (as a good pal of Randy in particular) he was also privy to the growing tensions simmering between both men.
Ooh yeah, it was quite something, brother...
10. Vince Was Furious That WWF Magazine Spoiled WrestleMania IV
It was certainly almost something when Vince McMahon got his hands on the then-editor of WWF Magazine in February 1988.
Just over one full month before it was due to happen at WrestleMania IV, the mag announced that Randy Savage was the new WWF Champion in a photo shoot feature with Miss. Elizabeth. Somewhere in Stamford, CT, McMahon went wild and couldn't believe his own company had spoiled the result of the year's biggest show prematurely.
Worse, Randy wasn't even the focal point of the spread. Elizabeth was, and a seemingly innocent insert citing her as the "manager of the WWF Heavyweight Champion" had Vince tearing his hair out. The editor wasn't sacked, but he was reprimanded for giving the game away right before 'Mania.
Bruce was in attendance to see McMahon's not-so-subtle meltdown. On this occasion, Vinnie Mac can't be blamed for his outburst.
