10 Things We Learned From WWE In 2016
2. The McMahons Still Crave Attention
Even since 2000, fans have complained that the McMahons have overshadowed their own talent, and they're right. That year, the main event of WrestleMania was a four-way match, but the real story of the bout was that there was a McMahon in every superstar's corner. It ended up as a setup for the McMahons consolidating as one top heel faction.
Sixteen years later, not much has changed. The year opened with The Authority in full swing, dominating the main event of WrestleMania against Roman Reigns. If that wasn't enough, the other top match for the show saw Shane McMahon return to feud with Vince McMahon (with The Undertaker, almost as an afterthought, as Vince's in-ring proxy).
Following WrestleMania, Shane and Stephanie feuded over control of Raw, then finally split shows when the brand split was reinstituted. Since then, Stephanie has continued to dress down talent on Raw, while Shane has been treated as the toughest man on Smackdown. It's not original, it's not practical, and it's just not good.
The bottom line is that no matter what year it is, Vince McMahon and his family will always be WWE's top stars.
