10 Things WWE Actually Got Right This Week
4. Shock Returns And Arrivals
WWE played a blinder with new arrivals and returning faces on Wednesday and Friday night.
Tommaso Ciampa had been rumoured ahead of time but with his own denials online and serious neck surgery in the all-too-recent past he was still an unexpected and welcome surprise. Meanwhile, with rumours and speculation about Kevin Owens and Asuka, WWE successfully blindsided us by bringing Finn Bálor back to NXT. He was received as much more exciting and important than he would have been on Raw or SmackDown and stole the social media buzz from AEW.
Tyson Fury’s teased fight with Braun Strowman successfully garnered media attention in places where WWE doesn’t usually penetrate. It also instantly revived interest in ‘The Monster Amongst Men’ after his latest Universal Title failure.
Cain Velasquez was immediately presented, and received, as a big deal. WWE have delivered us a legitimate threat to Brock Lesnar and promised a title programme that keeps him away from Roman Reigns for the foreseeable future.
Good work all round.
