10 Things That WWE (Almost) Always Messes Up

4. Midget Wrestlers

One of the most memorable staples of professional wrestlers is the use of little people in wrestling. From the days of Sky Low Low and Little Beaver in the 1950s and 1960s, to Mascarita Sagrada and Hornswoggle in more recent years, little people were often a big part of pro wrestling (pun intended). In the WWE, however, little people have been treated as jokes, especially in the last 10 years. Despite the novelty of seeing a little person wrestle in the land of giants in the WWE, often times it borders on the ridiculous. While the short-lived €˜Junior€™s Division€™ on SmackDown was a good idea, it was cancelled quickly due to lack of interest. For a better example of how little people are considered nothing more than gimmicks in the WWE, look no further than the case of El Torito and Hornswoggle. Hornswoggle was introduced as €˜Little Bastard€™, dressed as an Irish leprechaun and called a troll. While he has since gone on to become more of a €˜normal€™ character, in the sense that his dwarfism isn€™t his gimmick, which pales in comparison of how one of the greatest Mexican little luchadores has been treated:That is a video of Mascarita Dorada (literally €œLittle Golden Mask€) performing an unbelievable hurricanrana. The WWE took advantage of his popularity by making him into an anthropomorphic bull named El Torito, complete with nose ring and tail, as a joke character. On the October 6th, 2014 episode of RAW, we had to deal with another €˜joke€™ match, with El Torito facing off against Hornswoggle dressed in a gator costume. It was meant to be funny, but few fans, if any, truly found it comedic. In fact, the Brooklyn crowd chanted €œThis is Stupid€ throughout the segment. WWE clearly need to re-think how they use little people as wrestlers. They don€™t always have to be over-the-top gimmicks or wearing outlandish costumes. They can be entertaining without being ridiculed. Imagine if El Torito did in a WWE ring what he did in that video; it would really be a wake-up call for those who think that little people in wrestling are simply jokes.
