10 Things WWE Fans Want For Christmas In 2016
10. A New Universal Championship Belt
One of the most important yet often forgotten aspects of a championship is the aesthetics of the title belt itself. For years, WWE has overlooked this and have chosen to focus instead on crowbarring massive and multiple WWE logos into every championship belt that exists.
The purpose is clearly a marketing tactic, especially considering how WWE now delivers a customized championship belt to the winner of the Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup every year. While fans graciously accepted the WWE Championship's redesign in 2014 to incorporate the company's new logo, when WWE unveiled the Universal Championship belt at SummerSlam 2016 as a faux-WWE Championship clad in red leather, they were less than accepting.
Some of the most popular championship designs in WWE history came when the logo and the company's branding were subtle and left to the background. Take a look at the Winged Eagle, Big Gold, or Big Eagle belts and you'll see what I'm talking about.
With the Universal title, WWE had an opportunity to present something new and fresh while also perhaps calling back to the old but popular championships of the past. Instead, they once again overlooked the belt's aesthetics and it led to an awful crowd reaction that torpedoed SummerSlam's title match, making a new Universal Championship #10 on WWE fans' holiday wishlist.
