10 Things WWE Must Do In 2017
10. Give The Cruiserweight Champion A Long Title Reign
The cruiserweight division got off to a hot start by hosting a tournament to crown the revamped divisions first champion. The Cruiserweight Classic was a thirty-two man tournament contested over the course of four dates from June 23rd to September 14th, 2016. The high-flying tournament had its share of classic matches, including the finale that saw TJ Perkins win the inaugural championship. Perkins, along with the other cruiserweights WWE signed, made their RAW debut on the September 19th edition of the weekly program.
As of this writing the Cruiserweight Title has changed hands twice, at Hell in a Cell and the first edition of 205 Live, with a different man holding the title each time. TJ Perkins has held the championship the longest at forty-six days. To put that in perspective, the Cruiserweight Classic itself lasted eighty-three days.
Management has not done a good job of booking the cruiserweights since the Cruiserweight Classic, but with the creation of 205 Live there is a chance to begin again and make the high-flyers relevant. A new division needs stability to establish itself within the WWE Universe; and a new championship belt needs to be seen as prestigious in order to make fans care about title changes. Someone has to be given a lengthy title reign in order to legitimize the division. With Neville having recently joined the cruiserweights, he is the most likely candidate to accomplish that goal.
