If you read the "things to forget" about Goldust last month then you probably remember this because it was number one on his list. Lawler gave a fired up promo on the May 26, 1997 edition of Raw as his way to trash talk Goldust leading up to their King of the Ring qualifying match. What was notable about the promo was that Lawler went way too far. It was at a time in Goldust's career where they were turning him babyface after a successful heel run, so Lawler did his best to make Goldust look sympathetic. We all saw you out here with tears running down your face wondering why your old man Oldust dont love ya anymore. Well I know Dusty Rhodes and he told me why; its because you married the biggest gold digger in Georgia, then you put on a womans wig and you went around the ring kissing men like a flaming f**. Jerry LawlerIt came at a time when WWE was pushing the whole "Attitude Era" idea where they weren't afraid to say or do anything. What's amazing is that the word wasn't even bleeped out. You couldn't watch a TV show these days without that word making it past censors unless it was on a cable show like HBO. Even then it's not a word you hear too often because of how offensive it is. In a segment between Lawler and Goldust six months earlier, Lawler also asked Goldust if he was a "queer" although he was really apprehensive about saying that word. Goldust said no and nailed Lawler with a punch. There's no way that either one of those promos would be done WWE as a PG company. Even back then they were considered very controversial promos.
