10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About 2019
6. Kofi Kingston's Push Was A Happy Accident
It might've ended with a popcorn fart on SmackDown's FOX debut, but Kofi Kingston's WWE Title reign was one of 2019's high points. 'KofiMania' ran wild during the early months of the year, and fans demanded Vince McMahon push the often-overlooked veteran with the same ferocity they had Daniel Bryan in 2013-2014.
Their voices were heard, and WWE put Kingston over Bryan (funnily enough) on the biggest stage imaginable at WrestleMania. It was a magical moment, one that visibly meant the world to Kofi, his friends and family, and it reminded everyone that wrestling can be feel good when it wants to be.
It also wasn't the original plan for 'Mania, or the WWE Title.
Kingston's push only happened because Ali went down with a last-minute injury. That's why Kofi was thrust into the role of knackered, gritty underdog during a Gauntlet bout on SmackDown, and it's why he was able to show Vince what he was missing. Through all the elation, just know that 'KofiMania' wasn't some grand plan.
