He's been a cowboy, a country music singer, a degenerate, an ass man and 'The One'. Billy Gunn is a man of many gimmicks and names but these days he's mostly known as one of the head trainers down in NXT, where he along with Normal Smiley, Matt 'Tensai' Bloom and William Regal help to prepare the prospective superstars for the bright lights of WWE. It's not surprising that WWE chose Gunn to work as a trainer. He was with the company for over a decade during his first run there and was a big part of WWE's most successful ever period, The Attitude Era. As one half of the tag team The New Age Outlaws he was helping to sell out arenas and shift merchandise as much as anyone else around that time. In fact, Outlaws merchandise was the third highest-selling in the company, behind only The Rock and Stone Cold Steve Austin. Although he left the company on bad terms in 2004 after many spells on the sidelines with shoulder injuries, he was welcomed back into the fold in 2012. WWE briefly brought back the Outlaws for a short nostalgia run before Billy eased into his role as a trainer. Gunn resurfaced on WWE screens recently as one of the trainers of Tough Enough, WWE's latest attempt to create a bonafide star from a reality show. Gunn may be back in the public eye, but he has one or two skeletons in the closet...
