Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins worked a successful tag gimmick, and Dean Ambrose was cast as the laid-back cool of the group. He was also the first one to taste the sweetness of a singles title run.
What's more, that United States stint lasted 351 days. Yes, just 14 short of a full calendar year.
Impressive, right? Well, yes, yes it was, but delve a little deeper into that title reign and you might just find a nasty surprise. Ambrose, despite holding the US gold for 351 days, only defended it 14 times on television and pay-per-view. That kinda' lessens the wow factor of his reign.
In fairness, Deano's run came during a time when WWE looked at the United States belt like nothing more than a mid card prop. It fell before John Cena raised the title's profile, and thus isn't quite as impressive as it might've been.
