10 Things WWE Wants You To Forget About WrestleMania 27

1. The Main Event Was All Wrong

WrestleMania XXVII had more than its share of faults, but it'll always be remembered for its weak main event - The Miz defended the WWE Championship against John Cena in a hugely disappointing match. From a marquee standpoint, the bout was a flop simply because of the way The Miz was booked as WWE Champion in the run-up to the event. As The Rock got more and more involved in the Cena/Miz feud, he began to overshadow The Miz to the point where the actual bout felt like an afterthought. The match was a failure from an execution standpoint, as well. Even though John Cena's main events almost always deliver and The Miz is capable of handling himself in an action-packed bout, something was off that night. When both men fought to the outside (and Miz suffered a legitimate concussion), they were counted out, but The Rock restarted the match. After that, he nailed Cena with a Rock Bottom, allowing Miz to pin him for the victory. It was a messy contest that buried the WWE Champion and only served to set up next year's WrestleMania main event. Overall, the match was a fitting end to an evening that exposed all the problems WWE had created for themselves. A perfectly piss-poor WrestleMania, this was.
