It was hardly a common occurrence to see a gold-painted man wearing women's lingerie in the WWF of 1996. That side of Goldust's character would amp up throughout the Attitude Era, but it all started when the promotion still considered itself child-friendly. Hilariously, Vince McMahon loved it.
Goldust has said during several shoot interviews that McMahon chuckled when he told him what he was wearing beneath the gold outfit. Being stripped to his smalls by Roddy Piper on the grand stage of WrestleMania was sure to turn heads, and the boss was all for humiliating Goldust and shocking everyone watching.
Jerry Lawler seemed genuinely disgusted by what he was seeing on commentary too, only further selling the moment and basically narrating what fans must have been thinking. Goldust wanted to push the envelope further and further, realising that shock tactics were his best bet at getting over.
