For those of you who are none too fussed though, (or, like me, you just can’t resist clicking on those sweet spoiler-tastic links) you may well already be aware of the piece of news I’m referring to, not least because it’s already on WWE.com. Either way, I’ll cut to the chase; Mickie James will be making her return to WWE programming and challenging Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship at NXT Takeover: Toronto.

Given that this involves the premier women’s prize in NXT, not to mention the fact that it’s been more than six years since Mickie left the company, this is a pretty major development. On top of that, the lengthy hiatus means there may also be some reacquainting in order.

So with that in mind, this article runs down ten things that you may not have known about the latest big name NXT acquisition, Mickie James.

10. Her Sporting Background

Most professional wrestlers—but by no means all of them—tend to have some kind of sporting background. From amateur wrestling champions, to failed American football stars, we’ve seen all kinds of sportsmen (and women) transition from more competitive endeavours to the world of scripted pro wrestling.

Mickie James certainly falls into that category of having some kind of sporting pedigree in her pre-wrestling years, but her medium of choice wasn’t necessarily the most commonplace.

Rather than competing on the grid iron or in ballparks or gymnasiums, Mickie’s stomping ground was—well, wherever it is that horse shows take place.

A keen equestrian, Mickie says she’s competed in horse shows and trained horses pretty much all her life, and as a little girl that was what she envisioned herself doing when she grew up.
