10 Things You Didn't Know About Doug Williams
10. Doug Only Started Watching WWF Wrestling Once He Moved To Germany
Growing up in England, a young Doug Williams didn't really take much notice of American wrestling until his family moved to Germany. It wasn't so much that Doug wouldn't have been interested, he simply didn't have the means for exposure to the top companies at a young age. That all changed once he moved away from the UK at age 13.
Upon landing in Germany, his family began receiving SKY Television, enabling Doug to see the bright and colourful action presented by the World Wrestling Federation. This was in the late-1980's, a time when names like Hulk Hogan and The Ultimate Warrior were in prominence.
During an interview with Ben Veal, Williams recalled his fascination with the larger-than-life characters on his screen. Despite being linked heavily to a more purely British style of wrestling, he loved the huge personalities he watched regularly on WWF programming.
Doug had attended numerous World Of Sport shows in Reading with his father, but it wasn't until that fateful stay in Germany that he started really getting to grips with the WWF style.
