10. She Was Overprotected Growing Up

Growing up in Yorktown, New York, Mandy Rose had three older brothers. She was closest to youngest brother Gary, as there was only eighteen months difference between them.

One story Rose has shared about Gary depicts him being incredibly overprotective. When Mandy was in the eighth grade, she had her first boyfriend. One day early in their relationship, they were walking across the school field holding hands, when they heard steps fast approaching behind them.

Her boyfriend turned around and received a punch in the face from her brother, who clearly didn’t approve of Rose’s choice of partner. Fortunately, the punch didn’t cause any damage, and Rose’s former boyfriend quickly saw the humour in the situation. It was then that Mandy realised she couldn’t have a public relationship while she was still at school with her brothers.

Perhaps this anecdote of disapproval from other people inspired the current love story between Otis and Mandy…
