9. Hawk Slapped Him During Their First Meeting
Here's another tale from VICE's doc that's worth mentioning.
Animal was working out in the gym one day when he felt a super-stiff slap land on his back. When he turned around (probably to give the perpetrator a knuckle sandwich), he was greeted by a stern-looking Hawk. This was the first time both men had ever spoken a word to one another, and it could've got ugly.
Hawk proceeded to kindly inform his future partner that he should be lifting way more weight than he was. Instead of getting angry at the interruption, Animal got a kick out of Hawk's forthrightness, and the pair hit it off as friends immediately. It wasn't long before they were training partners too.
Imagine strolling into your local gym, getting all fired up to smash a weight workout and seeing the f'n Road Warriors grunting away with hundreds of pounds on the rack. That'd be enough to send anyone running scared.
