WWE had a very tough 2007. The Benoit tragedy and subsequent media frenzy/government action almost crippled the company. The resulting suspensions, in connection with the Signature Pharmacy scandal, thinned-out an already depleted roster. Then top star John Cena went and suffered a serious injury, pinning their biggest draw to the bench. The company would be hoping for a better 2008. It couldn't be anymore uncertain than 2007 was, that's for sure. There were still some bad moments, such as the 60-day suspensions for Jeff Hardy and William Regal (both in the midst of big pushes) and top stars The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels needing time off to deal with yet more injuries. In the ring, however, the company was on a serious roll. The standard of WWE's PPVs in 2008 was pleasantly high and WrestleMania XXIV delivered the hoped for drama (courtesy of Ric Flair's retirement match, mainly) and classic matches (thank you, Edge and Undertaker). The company also treated us to the truly spectacular Chris Jericho versus Shawn Michaels rivalry, which was the feud of the year, as well as the rise of CM Punk, who fought considerable odds to become a top merchandise man and World Heavyweight Champion (even if his first run was a disappointment). As usual, however, as good as things were in the ring, there was still plenty of drama away from it. Here are ten things you might not know about WWE in 2008.
