10 Times WCW Purposefully Lied To The Fans

8. Ric Flair Is Defending The WCW Title Against Hulk Hogan? No!

Ric Flair won the WCW World Heavyweight Title from Vader at StarrCade 1993 and defended it throughout the winter and spring of 1994, once again cementing himself as the WCW legend against which all others are measured. Despite celebrating his 45th birthday during this title reign, "The Nature Boy" hadn't lost a step. After retaining his title in a draw with Ricky Steamboat at Spring Stampede, though, he'd have quite the challenge ahead of him. Col. Robert Parker began to threaten Flair, promising that his Stud Stable was bringing in someone who would take the title from the champ -- in Parker's words, a 6'7", 300 pound former World Champion with blonde hair. Could it be? After almost a year away from the WWF, had Hulk Hogan finally signed with WCW? Would we get the ultimate dream match, one which WWF had failed to properly give us? Nope. The man, revealed at Slamboree, was none other than Barry Windham. While technically, the criteria all applied to Windham, and he and Flair had a history, fans expecting to see Hulk Hogan were surely disappointed. Yes, it may not have been a straight-up lie, but it was a classic bait-and-switch, the kind that alienates customers -- who had to wait two whole additional months to see Hogan take the title from Flair.
