10 Times WWE Almost Made A New Star (Then Totally Blew It)
10. Rusev Day
WWE star struggles to feel relevant on the roster. That star creates a unique gimmick that quickly gets over with the fans, then WWE fails to capitalise on it and leaves them high and dry - it's a tale as old as time.
This is something that fans have been frustrated with for years, as it has happened countless times. One particularly memorable example was the rise of Rusev, and his subsequent plummet, which ended in him being released from the company.
During the latter end of 2017 and the better part of 2018, Rusev did the impossible and turned himself into a fan-favourite. His "Rusev Day" moniker got over with the fans, and audiences had been wise to his in-ring prowess for some time. His "Happy Rusev Day" merchandise even became a number one selling product on WWE Shop.
So, how did WWE respond to this? Well, by putting him in a makeshift tag team with Aiden English and having him lose every feud he was placed into, diminishing and spoiling his popularity. He lost to Randy Orton, The Usos, Jinder Mahal, The Undertaker, AJ Styles and more.
It became impossible to believe in his abilities, and soon he was just fodder for infidelity storylines. Sadly, it turned out that not everyday was "Rusev Day".
